During our work together, you'll learn how to support your child through food interactions and meal times, what your responsibilities are related to feeding your child and what your child's responsibilities are with eating with the goal of creating pleasant family mealtimes.
When picky eating has become extreme - such as limited foods your child or teen will eat, food having to be prepared in a specific way, or having little to no interest in eating - this can lead to a constant state of stress whenever food is involved. We will take a deep dive into your child or teen's medical, growth, and feeding history so we can build a plan that supports both you and your child.
Concerns around a child's growth - whether it's slow/no weight gain or rapid weight gain - usually resort to pressure of some sort. Let's work to remove that pressure of eating less of some foods and more of others and end the food battles.
Your job as the caregiver is to decide the what, when, and where of feeding and allow your child the autonomy to decide how much and whether to eat at every meal and snack. The Ellyn Satter Institute is the official source for the interpretation and application of the Satter feeding and eating models.
Your child will learn to not be afraid of new foods and be open to adding more diverse choices to their plate. Our goal is to create a mealtime experience that is both enjoyable and nourishing.
All sessions are conducted through Telehealth. For teens (ages 13 years & older), they will have individual time separate from parent(s). For children (12 years & younger), sessions will be conducted with parent(s).
back to the questions
Yes! Recovering from an eating disorder is absolutely possible! Recovery happens when you’re supported and in relationship with others: with providers on your care team, with your loved ones, and with yourself. Recovery is a process that requires time, energy, and willingness to be vulnerable.
back to the questions
For infants, toddlers, & school-age children (ages 6-12), I primarily meet with parents/caregivers. Children can be present for part of the visits but it is important to have childcare or child-free time for parents/caregivers to be fully present during our time together. As we work together, we will determine if and when it is appropriate to have your child join in the sessions.
For adolescents, I primarily meet with your teen, checking in with & updating parents/caregivers either at the end of the visit or every couple of visits.
